Ultratech cements is a part of the Aditya Birla group which is 11th largest producer of cement in the world and seventh largest producer of cement in Asia. Originally this company was incorporated as L&T cement Ltd on 24th August 2000. However L&T Ltd decided to demerge the cement business and focus on the core activity in the year 2004 and Grasim acquired management control in the same year. The name of the company was changed Ultratech Cement Limited with effect from 14th October 2004.
The Company has an annual capacity of 23.1 million tons. It manufactures and markets ordinary portland cement, portland blast furnace slag cement and portland pozzalana cement. It also manufactures ready mix concrete (RMC). UltraTech Cement Limited has five integrated plants, six grinding units and three terminals: two in India and one in Sri Lanka. It is an exporter of cement clinker. The export markets span countries around the Indian Ocean, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The Company's subsidiaries include Dakshin Cement Limited, UltraTech Cement Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. and UltraTech Cement Middle East Investments Limited.
