Telefónica mainly expects its vCPE solution to reduce costs, but also to deliver new services to residential customers in at least half the time it takes today.
Telefonica virtualised CPETelefónica has deployed a virtualised customer premises equipment (vCPE) trial in Brazil, where it operates under the Vivo brand and provides fixed, mobile, cable TV and broadband services. vCPE is based on the technology and prototype developed by Telefónica I+D, the operator's research and development company, with contributions from, and integration, by NEC. The vCPE technology will enable the operator to move particular IP functions away from customers’ home gateways to its own network.
