Marine, Recreation Vehicles, and Electric Vehicles Offer High Growth Potential

On-board charging is an efficient, hassle-free charging method for motive applications. Demand and growth potential are largely from marine vehicles, recreational vehicles, golf carts, and forklifts. Adoption is high in the United States and Europe, and gaining momentum in China, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. This research service discusses the different types of charging options available for motive applications, and the key factors promoting demand. It elaborates on the applications and geographical regions attractive for onboard chargers and details the evolution of chargers and future technologies. Detailed pricing ranges, voltage specifications, and operating parameters for various applications are also provided.

Market Overview
-A battery charger is a device that converts electrical energy from a utility (120/240V AC) to chemical energy and enables the battery to deliver electrical energy (12/24/36/48V DC).
-A rectifier converts the alternating current (AC) from a utility to direct current (DC) to charge batteries. It performs the following main functions:
-Battery charging is categorised as follows:
oLevel 1 charging: This is through the home socket, with a capacity of kW. Due to the low current rating offered at residential units, this is the slowest form of charging.
oLevel 2 charging: This is faster than level 1 charging, with a higher ampere rating, offering capacities such as kW and kW. On-board charging is largely through this level.
oLevel 3 charging: This is DC fast charging, where the battery is directly fed with high capacity (kW– kW of power) charging. With a high ampere rating, this is the fastest form of charging available, through dedicated service lines. This method recharges the battery to % of its capacity in – minutes.
-Battery chargers are specified using parameters such as output voltage, charging current, input voltage, single/multi-stage charging, dimensions, and weight.
