Key Findings

Total manufacturer-level revenue will increase from $ x million in 2013 to approximately $ x million in 2020, with rising sales of higher-priced direct-fit mufflers and catalytic converters driving most of the growth.
Unit shipments will increase because of a larger number of vehicles in the prime replacement age, along with increasing vehicles in operation (VIO) and consumers’ larger disposable income that can be spent on maintenance and repairs.
Standard exhaust components will form the bulk of unit shipments and revenue, with growth boosted by the prevalence of costlier direct-fit products in this segment.
Warehouse distributors (WD) will continue dominating the market as they have a wide distribution base among jobbers/installers who perform the replacement for the consumers.
The top 3 manufacturers—AP Exhaust Products, Tenneco Inc., and MagnaFlow—held x % market share because of their wide distribution. The principal feature of this market is that different suppliers dominate different product categories, leading to overall low market share for most suppliers.

Product Definitions

Standard Mufflers : Mufflers reduce noise levels generated by the engine.
Catalytic Converters : Catalytic converters reduce the level of harmful emissions from a vehicle’s exhaust.
Exhaust Pipes : Exhaust pipes (or tubes) transport exhaust fumes through various parts of the exhaust system.
Exhaust Manifolds : Exhaust manifolds receive exhaust gases generated by the engine and direct them into the exhaust systems.
Performance Mufflers : Performance mufflers offer advantages in the form of a unique sound as well as greater engine power from reduced backpressure.
Cat-back Systems : Cat-back systems are an entire performance exhaust system, from the catalytic converter back, including a performance muffler, mandrel bent piping, and a tip.
Exhaust Tips : An exhaust tip is added to the end of the exhaust pipe as a styling accessory to enhance the vehicle’s appearance.
Oxygen Sensors : Oxygen sensors help in continually detecting the oxygen content in the exhaust gas and to alert whether the exhaust forms a rich or lean fuel mixture.
