BMI View: Efforts to roll-out wireline and mobile broadband infrastructure and services, including to alarge proportion of underserved rural areas, will drive growth of New Zealand's telecoms market in themedium term. This will benefit the service provider sector as new customers are hard to come by and thereis little more to be done in upselling premium services. The infrastructure aspect will prove mostchallenging as consumers will be slow to take full advantage of 3G/4G and fibre networks. Consolidationwill continue as operators seek to tap into new markets.

Latest Updates & Industry Developments

- There were 3.842mn 3G/4G subscriptions in 2014 and this will rise to 4.446mn by 2019, although we donot expect a significant number to be 4G-only by the end of the five-year forecast period.

- Broadband subscription growth is being driven by the mobile sector, but the ambitious fibre-to-thehome(FTTH) initiative will provide additional upside in the longer term. We forecast total broadbandsubscriptions to grow from 4.830mn in 2014 to 6.001mn by 2019.
