BMI View: Growth in New Zealand's small construction industry will moderate over the next decade as theChristchurch rebuilding slows from its peak in 2015. An inflated housing market presents downside risks tothe key residential construction sector, though the upwards building trend remains in place. The roadssector is booming, energy and utilities may require capacity expansion in the medium term and socialinfrastructure is providing several PPP opportunities.

- After good growth in the previous decade, the construction industry will moderate over 2016-2025.Construction industry value growth will be 3.0% in 2016 to NZD15.2bn (USD9.4bn) and average 2.9%annually to 2025.

- Rebuilding Christchurch after the 2010-2011 earthquakes will continue to contribute favourably to ourtotal industry value and growth over the medium term, but rebuilding may have peaked in 2015.

- An overheating and unsustainable housing market poses downside risk to the residential building sector,which is currently experiencing an upward growth trend.

- The road sector is seeing heightened levels of activity, with several major awards coming in 2015 and2016, while airports in Auckland and Wellington are planning significant upgrade projects.

- The energy and utilities infrastructure sector remains quiet, but a forecast need for energy capacityexpansion in the medium term presents a possible avenue for development.
