BMI View: Namibia's tourism market offers significant growth potential. The country is developing areputation as a popular safari holiday destination and is raising awareness of its many attractions invarious source markets in order to compete with more established regional safari holiday destinations, suchas South Africa. Arrivals are set to increase steadily over our five year forecast period through to 2020,though we do note that some downside risks are presented by a potential economic downturn in key sourcemarkets, particularly European source markets including Germany, and a lack of adequate conservationefforts to secure the sustainability of Namibia's wildlife reserves.

Key Updates And Forecasts

- Following a slowdown in growth in 2015, we expect to see robust growth in international tourism arrivalsto Namibia in 2016, with the inbound tourism market forecast to increase by 8.8% to reach just under1.4mn. Further growth is expected over the remainder of the forecast period, with arrivals expected toreach over 1.6mn in 2020.

- Namibia continues to improve international air connectivity. Budget airline Fly Blue Crane has receivedauthorisation to commence flights between Cape Town and Windhoek and Qatar Airlines has announcedit will have four weekly flights between Doha and Windhoek from September 2016.

- Namibia is heavily reliant upon South Africa for both tourism arrivals and investment. As such thereported recent imposition of business visa requirements for business travellers from South Africa couldprove problematic, particularly if South Africa in turn imposes further visa restrictions.
