Global UAS Indigenous Programs :
Potential Challengers and Investment Opportunities

Indigenous unmanned aerial system (UAS) development and manufacturing capabilities are advancing rapidly worldwide. North America and Europe lead the world in technological capabilities, along with Israel. While those regions will continue to build on the successes of advanced UAS programs, countries in Asia, the Middle East, and South America will provide significant competition for international UAS programs in military and commercial markets. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the current indigenous UAS manufacturing capabilities by global region and estimate the future capabilities for countries that show potential but are not currently leaders in the market.

Purpose

The purpose of this research is to evaluate current indigenous UAS manufacturing capabilities by global region and estimate future capabilities for countries that show potential but are not currently leaders in the market.

- Market-leading companies are not evaluated/discussed in this document because the indigenous capabilities they possess are well known; hence, market-leading companies in the US, Europe, and Israel are only referenced when discussing established UAS partnerships with foreign entities.

- Because there is an overabundance of UAS platforms under kilograms (kgs) and the technology to develop/build them does not need to be complex, this research effort focuses on UAS programs that are larger than kgs maximum take off weight (MTOW)’ o Developing UAS platforms larger than kgs is more representative of a true indigenous capability because such programs require advanced technology and a larger industrial base. o kgs MTOW corresponds to the small Class I definition of a UAS according to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) classifications
