Qatar's food and drink industry benefits from a strong consumer outlook, with high income levels supporting positive food spending despite short-term economic headwinds. Qatar holds one of the regions wealthiest consumer base, driving growing demand for high-value products and boosting Premiumisation. Alcoholic drinks spending growth will be muted throughout our forecast period to 2020 due to large Muslim population, which will drive higher demand for non-alcoholic beverages. MGR growth will be positive owing to an uptick in retail space development.

- Prolonged low energy prices will lead to cuts in government spending and a slowdown in the influx of higher-income expatriates, which will in turn have a negative effect on private consumption growth.
