Hong Kong possesses a small but well developed market comprised of four highly competitive mobile operators and a number of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs). A highly saturated market means revenue growth is largely dependent on increasing ARPU or enticing customers from competitors through aggressive sales and marketing tactics.
Mobile broadband services are widely supported through deployment of competing HSPA/LTE networks, with approximately three quarters of the population owning a smartphone and connecting to 3G and LTE networks with connectivity complimented by WiFi. Operators have also focused on mobile content and applications to improve customer loyalty and incrementally increase ARPU.

Operators have been launching Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) to build on previous WiFi deployments;
Operators have been increasing network speeds through deployment of TDD and FDD aggregation technology;
Data downloads continue to grow, with the average data downloaded per subscriber running at around 1.4GB per month (December 2015 data);
Hutchison Telecom announced plans to launch a commercial FDD/TDD LTE-A service, becoming the first operator in Hong Kong to commit to this;
OFCA launched a public consultation on the question of re-assigning spectrum in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands.
HKT demonstrated a pilot 4.5G 1Gb/s mobile network, claiming the trial as a world first.
