In mid-2015 the active ingredient naphazoline was switched from prescription to OTC, in the pharmaceutical from of naphazoline hydrochloride in ophthalmic solution in concentrations of 0.125mg/ml, 0.5mg/ml (0.05%), 1mg/ml and 1.2mg/ml, benefiting brands such as Luz Zul and Nazil Ofteno. This active ingredient is used to treat allergic conjunctivitis. The switch led to an increase in OTC eye care, which was previously dominated by artificial tears and products to help with eye lubrication.
