Chile's broadband penetration is relatively high for the region. The country has benefited from solid GDP growth during the last decade, and with one of the highest GDP per capita rates in the region there is significant disposable income for telecom services. The population is also receptive to new technologies, so encouraging operators to develop services based on LTE and fibre-based broadband infrastructure. Broadband services in Chile are among the fastest and least expensive in Latin America. In terms of both broadband penetration and broadband speed, Chile ranks second in South and Central America after Uruguay.
Although a number of operators compete in the broadband sector, Movistar remains the market leader, followed by VTR Globalcom and Claro. Competition in the broadband market is intense, though given the dominance of the major players much of this competition is cross-platform.
Chile's pay television market is one of the most mature in the region, with penetration ranking third in South America after Argentina and Uruguay. Over half of all households subscribe to pay TV services.
