The new report “Global Medical X-Ray Devices Market Assessment & Forecast: 2015-2019” by Spearhead Acuity Business Research & Consulting group reveals that the global medical X-ray devices market was valued at US$ 8,315.5 million in 2014 and is anticipated to grow to US$ 10,334.8 million at a CAGR of 4.4% from 2015 to 2019.

In terms of geography, the report covers the regions of North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Middle-East and Africa. North America contributed to the greatest share in the global market. The major growth drivers in the region are emerging on-field applications for portable and hand-held x-ray devices and continued demand from hospitals and clinics. The advent of remote patient monitoring and telemedicine is also expected to drive the market for x-ray devices combined with picture archiving facilities. Asia-Pacific has been estimated to exceed Europe in the market for x-ray devices with significant existing demand for refurbished systems coupled with increased demand for new devices occurring due to a strong economy and increased investment in healthcare facilities by government and private players. Urbanization, increased strength of economy, greater per-capita income and increased medical tourism in the region particularly for orthopedics, cardiology and dental procedures has increased the purchase capacity of hospitals in the region for all imaging technologies.

The report covers products and technologies such as stationary and portable machines. It also provides analysis for analog x-ray systems, computed radiography and digital x-ray systems. Digital x-ray systems employ a film less photography. The system uses a digital flat panel detector that captures images then displays it onto a screen of a computer. There are currently two types of detectors which are indirect flat panel detectors and direct flat panel detectors. Digital systems offer several advantages such as computer aided detection, excellent image quality at a lower radiation dose to patients as well as operators, cheaper image cost, flexibility to transfer images through several online tools, eliminates use of chemicals used in developing films and others. These advantages are currently major drivers for digital systems. The manufacturers of these devices include market leaders such as GE Healthcare, Philips and Siemens along with the presence of approximately 40 other notable players. Asia-based manufacturers such as Shimazdu Corporation also held a significant market position in the x-ray devices market in 2014, owing to increased adoption of their manual and motorized mobile x-ray systems with flat panel detectors (MobileDaRt X-ray product series). Other major players in this market are FujiFilm, Agfa Healthcare, MinXRay, Planmed, Hologic and Bennett.

The cost of routine check-ups that include blood testing, x-ray imaging and exhaustive disease testing continues to be expensive in several countries due to which, x-rays are done most commonly post symptomatic occurrence. Strong reimbursement for x-ray scans in developed countries and broad range of medical insurance options in emerging countries such as India, China, Brazil, South-Africa and other growing economies has ushered comfort in minds of geriatrics who require routine scans the most. Emerging countries continue to choose retrofitting digital x-ray detectors as a means of cutting cost as most analog devices can be retrofitted. The increase in demand of diagnostics across the world has also added to the growth of this market. Furthermore, introduction of services such as mobile mammography and x-ray labs have supplemented the growth since several company fleet vans are now fitted with x-ray systems for mobile scans.
