BMI View: Botswana's tourism industry has experienced a difficult two years following the ebola virus anddifficult economic conditions in key source markets. Hotel and travel infrastructure remainsunderdeveloped, and there is serious competition from major Southern African neighbours such as SouthAfrica. The country needs to keep supporting the tourism industry by encouraging international flights andhotel development, as well as increasing marketing efforts in order to diversify its source markets awayfrom neighbouring countries, especially considering the low commodity prices affecting mining interests inthe region.
