IT spending over the next year is being driven by the need to improve customer satisfaction/cross sales rates, improving the quality of internal data and improving processes. European banks are struggling to be sufficiently responsive due to inflexible, costly legacy core systems. As a result, in 2007 banks will beginning to address the future of their core systems environments and to consider transformation strategies. European retail banks still have a long way to go with regards to their payments infrastructures. Consolidating payments systems across channels, payment types and lines of business will be the primary focus in payments for most banks as they seek to reduce costs while meeting payments regulations such as SEPA and Faster Payments in the UK.
