The global telecommunications (telecom services and equipments) industry was estimated USD1.71 trillion in 2005. An overwhelming 77% of this sum came from the telecommunications services (USD1.32tr). Revenues from fixed-line services stood at USD449 billion, mobile services were USD572 billion, and telecom related services such as data communications, telex accounted for the rest in the services section. In future, the telecom value chain is bound to undergo a significant change, with a move towards convergence of information, telecommunications and entertainment and pacing up the usage of 3G mobile services.
