Wireless data pricing in Korea: targeting profit maximisation
Korean mobile operators have been promoting two-stage flat-rate tariffs since early 2006. Hybrid flat-rate tariffs mixed with per-content packet charges have been offered at a variety of price points. Two-stage plans have been introduced to assuage users’ concerns about high tariff charges, but also to maximise operators’ profits. Research analyst Sangyun Han describes the strategies with which Korean operators have implemented flat-rate tariffs.
