The changes to the noise and vibration characteristics can be easily executed at this stage with a few design alterations. If however the noise and vibration characteristics are not optimized at the R&D stage, the cost of modifying these characteristics increases exponentially as we move through the product lifecycle. For example, in the automotive and transportation industry there are a number of legislations limiting the amount of noise and vibration a vehicle can generate. To comply with these legislations and achieve optimum NVH performance, the prototype needs to be tested extensively.
