BMI View: Power generation in Zimbabwe will remain low, with any future growth subdued as a lack ofrainfall hampers hydropower generation. Any further investment into either thermal or hydropower willexperience delays, as funds from China - necessary for project funding - are currently put on hold due toconcerns over Zimbabwe's ability to repay its loans.

Latest Updates And Structural Trends

- Zimbabwe's hydropower generation is expected to decrease to 2.8TWh for the rest of 2016, half of theoutput generated in 2015.

- We are not currently factoring in any new power plant projects due to loans from China - necessary tofund the construction of power plant projects - being put on hold. Sinosure, a Chinese insurancecompany, said until Zimbabwe can clear up to USD50mn debt and show commitment to paying back itsfurther USD1.5bn in debt, any further loans will not be guaranteed.
