During 2007-2011, supply of rice in Russia went up by 39%, from 1.1 to 1.5 million tons. Only 2007 witnessed almost 7% decline in rice supply in the Russian market in comparison with the previous years. During 2007-2011, supply of rice in Russia went up by 39%, from 1.1 to 1.5 million tons. Only 2007 witnessed almost 7% decline in rice supply in the Russian market in comparison with the previous years. Declining was caused by the lowering arrivals of semi-processed or processed rice form China to Russia in 2007. Supply was shortened due to gross violations of importation of goods that did not meet the criteria of quarantine safety.
In 2007-2011, it was gross rice yield that contributed to rice supply in the Russian market in the first place. The share of supply of rice in the aggregate supply for the period concerned was fluctuating between 25% in 2008 and 13% in 2011. It is the state support of rice growing in Russia that favours decline in the volume of rice import.
In 2007 – 2011, demand for rice in Russia rose by almost 37%, from 1 to 1.3 million tons. Decline in demand as compared to the previous years was registered by 3% only in 2007. The highest demand for rice was noticed in 2010 which was by 13%. One of the main reasons for the increase of demand was the growth of export of rice from Russia.
