BMI View: We have a modest outlook on growth in Zambia's food and drink industry as the country'seconomic conditions are weakening. High inflation rates will constraint consumer spending, and maizeimports will further increase food prices. Growth in the non-alcoholic drinks industry will be lead primarilyby essential spending. We expect the mass grocery retail sector to be the fastest-growing sector, withincreasing investment from regional players.

- Food sales will come under pressure, with falling maize production leading to maize imports.

- The reduction of excise duty on clear beer will encourage investment in Zambia's beer industry.

- Fuel shortages will remain a challenge to the industry, with the government planning to reduce subsidies.
