BMI View: Namibia will remain a net-importer of electricity due to lack of new power projects comingonline. Political and pricing issues cause delays to gas-fired and hydroelectric power projects. We expectthis will lead to an increase in non-hydropower renewables investment, as is evidenced by new solar andwind power projects being planned.

Latest Updates And Structural Trends

- The Erongo gas-fired power plant is on hold, as courts have to decide on whether Xaris Energy waswrongfully awarded the preferred bidder-status in place of Arandis Energy. We also maintain that due tologistical issues in terms of gas feedstock and financial viability, that we are not including the powerplant into our forecasts as of yet.

- We are maintaining our forecasts for thermal power, due to no new projects forecast to come onlinewithin our 10-year forecast period.

- The Namibian and Angolan governments have reportedly still not reached an agreement regarding the300 megawatt (MW) Baynes hydropower project, and we therefore do not factor it into our forecasts.

- The 5 megawatt (MW) Otjozondjupa Solar Park is reportedly set to come online in June 2016,commissioned by HopSol Africa, with First Solar set to supply the cadmium telluride modules for thepanels.

- NamPower is currently in talks with South African utility, Eskom, for the import of 200 megawatts(MW) of power.

- Namibian minister of mines and energy, Obeth Kandjoze, has stated that Namibia will not beexperiencing load-shedding during the winter months. This is due to NamPower reportedly ensuringenough electricity supply through both import deals and domestic generation.
