Report of Aluminium Corporation of China (Chinalco)

The growths of economic development in China and other emerging market economic countries is much higher than other regions of the world, and have gradually become the main consumers, also will have more influence on global aluminium market.

The aluminium consumption has been weaken in developed countries, but in China is relatively in growth period, which will push the global aluminium consumption reach to 40.57 million tons in 2008, an increase of 6.88 per cent year-on-year. Electrolytic aluminium production in China due to snowstorms, earthquakes and the electricity supply in summer time, has restrained recently, but the global aluminium output will reach about 40.92 million tons, an increase of 6.67 per cent year-on-year in 2008. Electrolytic aluminium in global market will remain surplus. The time for China became a net importer of aluminium will be postponed to 2009.

Chinalco is the Chinese largest alumina, electrolytic aluminium and aluminium fabrication manufacturer, made 3.45 million tons of alumina between Jan –Apr 2008, the average sales price was 3,364 yuan / ton, 950,000 tons of aluminium, the average sales price was 19,148 yuan / ton. In 2008 Chinalco is expected to produce alumina 10.2 million tons, up 6.5 per cent year-on-year, electrolytic aluminium 3.6 million tons, and an increase of 28.6 per cent year-on-year.
