Production & Market of Dimethyl Formamide in China

Dimethyl formamide, as a solvent with low evaporation rate, is comprehensively used in the production of chemical fiber, plastics, and pharmaceuticals, etc. In the 1990s, with the fast development of DMF’s downstream industries, polyurethane industry and acrylon industry, DMF production in China became flourishing.

There used to be about 30 DMF producers in China from mid 1990s to 2000. But small production scale andcompetitiveness insufficiency in production technology have forced many Chinese producers to quit from this market in the recent five years.

The current production capacity of DMF in China is above 20,000t/a. Meanwhile, it still keeps increasing. It is predicted that the capacity together with the output increasing trend will continue in the future.

Now, the DMF produced by domestic producers, constitutes a large share in China's market. The fast growing chemical industry in China shows that China will consume much more DMF in the future. The development of DMF production technology will also benefit this industry. It is forecasted that China will also be a significant player in the global DMF market. Such an important market absolutely deserves observation.
