Plus-Size Men's Clothing Stores

The rapidly expanding market for plus-size men's clothing has not translated seamlessly into revenue growth for the Plus-Size Men's Clothing Stores industry over the five years to 2016. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease, over the past three decades, the percentage of American men that are overweight or obese has steadily risen to over 70.0%, a factor which has expanded the industry's core market. However, the majority of purchases of plus-size clothing occurs outside of the industry through a variety of more popular channels, including e-commerce websites, department stores, mass merchandisers and wholesale clubs. Consequently, industry revenue has grown relatively slowly during the five-year period to 2016. Over the five years to 2021, industry revenue is forecast to rise. Per capita disposable income will persistently rise as the economy continues to gain momentum. The nation's obesity rate, which is projected to stabilize, will remain high. This will provide operators with an opportunity for revenue growth. However, external retailers will continue to remain a persistent problem for industry operators.
