Highlights

The financial services sector recorded 183 deals in July: an increase of 2.2% on a month-on-month basis, and a decrease of 3.7% over the six-month (Jan 2008Jun 2008) average.

The retail and commercial banking segment witnessed a marginal increase in M&A activity, driven by consolidation in the mature markets and significant exits; private equity investment recorded an increase in the retail and commercial banking segment.

M&A activity in the asset management segment recorded an increase, with a focus on alternative investment management, while activity in the corporate and investment banking segment was primarily driven by consolidation and divestment of sub-prime affected assets.
