Global nuclear power generation is set to decline slightly over the next five years, dropping by 0.4% on average annually. In 2021, the US is the world leader in nuclear power generation, accounting for over 775,000 Gigawatthours. France, South Korea, and Canada ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Japan enjoyed the highest growth rate, increasing 17.5% year on year. Germany, however, experienced a decrease of 5.8% year on year since 2016. North American nuclear power consumption is expected to fall by 0.3% annually over the next five years, from 8.34 Exajoules in 2021. Since 1970, the region's demand for nuclear power has decreased by 1.2% annually.
