Global bioenergy consumption is projected to reach 25.4 billion metric tons by 2026, up from 24.4 billion metric tons in 2021, growing at a 0.9% annual rate. Since 2017, demand has increased by 2.3% year-on-year. China is the world's largest consumer of bioenergy, with 4.7 billion metric tons in 2021. India, Brazil, and the United States round out the top four. Luxembourg saw a 5.8% year-on-year increase since 2017, while Barbados experienced a 5.3% decline.
