By 2028, the country is expected to import approximately $4.2 million worth of antibiotics, up from around $3.6 million in 2023. This represents an average annual growth rate of 2.4%. Historically, Uganda's demand for antibiotics has been on an upward trajectory. Since 1999, there has been a consistent year-on-year increase of about 2.7%. In stark contrast, Uganda's export of antibiotics has seen a steep decline. In 2018, the country's antibiotic exports were valued at roughly $2,700, a sharp decrease from the $4,600 recorded in 2017. This marks a 40.9% drop compared to the previous year. The downward trend in antibiotic exports has been ongoing for more than a decade. Since 2007, Uganda's supply of antibiotics to foreign markets has decreased by an average of 40.6% each year.
