Global consumption of palm oil is forecast to reach 18 million metric tons by 2026, up from 17.3 million metric tons in 2021. This is a 0.9% annual growth rate, slightly higher than the 0.6% rate seen since 2017. In 2021, China was the top consumer of palm oil, with 2.95 million metric tons. India, Indonesia, and Nigeria ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Zimbabwe saw an increase of 6.3% year-on-year, while Papua New Guinea saw a decrease of 10.3% over the same period. Global production of palm oil is expected to reach 87.7 million metric tons by 2026, up from 76.8 million metric tons in 2021. This represents a 2.2% annual growth rate, higher than the 5.7% rate seen since 1966. In 2021, Indonesia was the top producer of palm oil, with 44 million metric tons. Malaysia, Thailand, and Colombia ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Nicaragua saw an increase of 14.5% year-on-year, while Venezuela saw a decrease of 28% over the same period.
