Infectious Disease Incidence

Number of new communicable disease cases arising in a given year, expressed usually as a rate per 100,000 population or as a percentage. Communicable diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites of fungi; the diseases can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another. Zoonotic diseases are infectious (communicable) diseases of animals that can cause disease when transmitted to humans.
