Non-life insurance (called property and casualty insurance in the United States) refers to all types of insurance business other than life insurance, for example property insurance, accident insurance, liability insurance, motor insurance or health insurance. An insurance firm is defined as a corporation legally authorized to act as an insurer, i.e. transfering risk from an individual to a company and reducing the uncertainty of risk via pooling.
