Export of saffron from Sri Lanka climbs in 2017

According to revised data presented by United Nations Statistical Office, the indicator rose greatly by 158.53 percent in 2017. Export of saffron sharply climbed from 4 214 kilogram in 2016 to 10 894.44 kilogram prior year, as it follows the tendency of the previous year when it grew by 4.98%. Sri Lanka saw a raise of 40 249.78% in export of saffron during the last 28 years. Furthermore, it has shown a rise at a 1.98% average annual growth rate during the five years with a negligible overall increase since the 1990. It averaged 2 333.73 kilogram from 1990 to 2017 and it attained its all-time high of 14 659 kilogram in 2012 and record low of 27 kilogram in 1990.
