Export of poppy seeds from Sri Lanka goes down in 2017

United Nations Statistical Office announced that export of poppy seeds sharply decreased by 87.74% in comparison with the previous year. Export of poppy seeds fell greatly by 1 503 kilogram, in contrast to the prior year when it went up by 42 725 percent. Sri Lanka saw a rise of 900% in export of poppy seeds during the last 25 years. Moreover, it has attained the compound annual growth rate of 2.74% during the 5 years with a marginal overall increase since the 1993. It averaged 105.08 kilogram from 1993 to 2017 and it attained its all-time high of 1 713 kilogram in 2016 and record low of 4 kilogram in 2015.
