Main Hospital Indicators

  • Hospital Discharge

    Releases of patients who have stayed at least one night in hospital, usually measured per 100,000 inhabitants. It includes deaths in hospital following inpatient care. Same-day discharges are usually excluded. Hospital discharge rate measures the number of patients who leave a hospital after receiving care.   • In Patient Average Length Of Stay

    Average number of days that patients spend in hospital for any cause. It is generally measured by dividing the total number of days stayed by all inpatients during a year by the number of admissions or discharges. Day cases are excluded.   • Surgical Procedures Performed

    Number of performed surgical procedures, usually measured per year and per 100,000 persons. It refers to all invasive therapies performed as in-patient surgery.   • Hospital Beds

    Number of inpatient beds available in public, private, general, and specialized hospitals and rehabilitation centers. In most cases beds for both acute and chronic care are included. It is usually measured per 1,000 or 100,000 inhabitants. Based on: World Health Organization.

    Elapsed time in days for patients on the non-emergency (elective) surgery waiting list from the date they were added to the waiting list for the procedure (following specialist assessment) to a designated census date. Based on: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
