Import of chestnuts to Sri Lanka: Rise in 2017

According to figures published by United Nations Statistical Office, chestnuts import sharply rose by 455.89% in 2017. Chestnuts import grew strongly from 141 kilogram in 2016 to 783.8 kilogram prior year, in contrast to the previous year when it declined by 70.25%. Sri Lanka saw a growth of 223.88% in chestnuts import during the last 25 years. Likewise, it has had the average annual growth rate of 0.77% during the last 5 years with a negligible overall decline since the start of time series. It averaged 743.75 kilogram from 1993 to 2017 and it attained its all-time high of 2 494 kilogram in 2005 and record low of 6 kilogram in 2014.
