In 2013, the assets of the Chinese banking sector were valued at RMB151.4 trillion, while the liabilities were worth RMB141.2 trillion. The number of domestic banking locations grew by over 7000 to 209,000 by the end of 2013.
The final report is Top Ten Global Banks: An Analysis of Financial Performance, Growth Opportunities and Risks, published by Marketline in July 2015. It looks at the strategies that are being adopted by the ten largest banks in the world, as well as the opportunities and risks that they face. There are detailed analyses of the of the top five banks as well as coverage of industry trends such as the rise of Chinese banks, regulatory action and changing banking technology. In the Asia Pacific region, the industry had a compound annual growth rate of 11.2% between 2009 and 2013. By comparison, the European market had a compound annual growth rate of 0.7% for the same period. Due to the strong growth of China’s economy, four of the top ten largest banks are now headquartered in China.
