BCC Research defines air pollution control equipment as equipment used to control indoor and outdoor air pollution through use of various filters and technologies. Air pollution control equipment is used to control and eliminate various forms of pollutants such as poisonous and harmful gases, pollen, dust and smoke. Air pollution control equipment is used to control and eliminate chemical pollution, biological pollution and physical pollution. Air pollution control equipment is extensively used by industries that are highly regulated and are known to be a pollution causing industry.

Air pollution control equipment is used by industrial, commercial and residential end users, with industrial end users—due to their very nature of operation—being the major end users. However, declining air quality and concerns of air-born pollutants among the public has led to residential end users becoming the strongest growing segment.

Air pollution control equipment consists of hardware and software. However, hardware forms the main component of air pollution control equipment. Software serves as an interface between the hardware (filter and other equipment) and the user. Sometimes, software can also be used to record the data and compare it with historical data or data from other regions. The main part of an air pollution control equipment is the filter, which can be of various types such as HEPA (high efficiency particulate air), electrostatic precipitators and activated carbon filters.

Scope
To calculate and segment the market, we have mainly considered air pollution control equipment only. However, we have also considered services revenue that a company reports within its total revenue. The report also includes companies that may not be exclusively air pollution control equipment manufacturers themselves, but market the products as their own by incorporating filters from other manufacturers.

Standalone services and software that are directly not part of air pollution control equipment is beyond the scope of this report. Aftermarket software, hardware and services are also beyond the scope of this report. For the purposes of this report, aftermarket is defined as revenue from companies that are only involved in aftermarket sales of products and services. However, total sales/total revenue is considered for companies that manufacture air pollution control equipment. (This total revenue consists of product revenue and services revenue.)

Further, services that are not directly related to air pollution control equipment, such as education, consulting and training, are beyond the scope of this report. Additionally, air quality monitoring equipment is considered as a separate market and hence is beyond the scope of this study.

The scope and coverage in this current report has changed slightly from the previous (ENV021A) version. In ENV021A, the market value included revenue from companies that are involved in aftermarket sales and services as well. However, inclusion of aftermarket revenue resulted in the inclusion of a very large number of smaller players that are active in the aftermarket services and products manufacture and supply space. Many of these smaller players from the emerging regions are unorganized, and revenue, sales and other figures for these smaller unorganized players remains doubtful. Hence, to do away with this confusion and uncertainty, the scope has been changed and in the current version, revenue from companies that are only involved in aftermarket sales of products and services are excluded.

Methodology
To undertake this forecast, BCC Research analyzed the markets for related technologies and products (products and solutions that are related to the air pollution control equipment market), as available in the product literature and catalogs and forward-looking statements made by public companies. Press releases, innovations and research and development papers, white papers and presentations were also consulted as well as data from other independent sources.

BCC Research used a dual approach to forecast and estimate the values for the air pollution control equipment market.

Firstly, BCC Research analyzed spending by various key air pollution control equipment providers and users. Global, regional and sector-specific air pollution control equipment spending was analyzed.
Further, other factors, such as the overall increase in the adoption of air pollution control equipment were also analyzed. To arrive at the final figures, BCC Research also estimated the overall budget allocation and the forecast spending by major companies around the world.

Secondly, BCC Research created a detailed survey and collected opinions from industry and domain experts, company executives and others with strong knowledge in the space to provide a qualitative assessment of the trends in the market. Along with the qualitative data, the survey also indicated some quantitative data sets and figures.

The final values were obtained through a combination of the above methods. Compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) were calculated by assigning the appropriate weight to various markets (e.g. various types of air pollution control filters) that significantly impact the air pollution control equipment market.
