This market insight summarizes and analyzes survey respondents' preferences and plans regarding mobilized supply chain management (MSCM) offerings. The Frost & Sullivan survey was conducted in mid-2015 and asked mobile and wireless decision-makers in the U.S. and Canadian companies about their MSCM deployment plans and barriers to adoption. Current MSCM users were queried about their preferred implementation process, satisfaction with the solution, and positive business impacts. This insight also includes a macro view of the North American mobile worker application market and current preferences regarding strategic mobility partners.

Key Findings
- Mobile supply chain management (MSCM) is a dynamic enterprise solution category that injects mobile technology into various aspects of today’s supply chain management (SCM) effort. Customer interest in MSCM has increased significantly during the past two years, with percent of surveyed businesses now deploying or planning to deploy compared to only percent in 2013.
- U.S. companies are further along the MSCM adoption curve than their Canadian counterparts. This lag can probably be attributed to two factors: 1) A stronger small and mid-sized business (SMB) presence in Canada, and 2) A weaker overall marketing effort around mobile business apps by Canadian vendors and resellers.
- Over one-half of current MSCM user companies intend to expand their deployments during the 2015-2016 time period, signaling a high level of customer satisfaction and reinforcing the need for vendors to maintain a proactive post-sales relationship with their customers.
- Fully customized MSCM solutions are preferred by only a small portion ( percent) of today’s businesses, with most MSCM users gravitating to prepackaged offerings (solutions that are typically at least percent standardized). This dynamic remains consistent across all company sizes and across both countries.
- Customers prefer to keep tight control over their supply chain management mobilization efforts. A significant majority of user companies handle any required MSCM customization and/or integration requirements in-house.
- MSCM users are experiencing an impressive number of hard-dollar benefits including increased worker productivity, happier customers, higher revenues, reduced paperwork, and better relations with their supply chain partners. There is a strong belief among current users that these solutions improve their competitive positioning in today’s marketplace.
- Compared to larger companies, SMBs in North America are significantly less likely to implement MSCM solutions. Larger enterprises are most concerned about back office integration requirements, while smaller businesses point to a lack of need, high cost and worries about user-friendliness as their top purchase barriers.
- Planners (the percent of companies that recognize the MSCM value proposition but are not yet ready to purchase) point to adoption barriers that reflect the dynamics of a still-early, somewhat undefined market. They expect vendors and channels to neutralize a long list of concerns that includes data security, back-end integration, scalability, ease of use, and return on investment (ROI).
- In summary, 2015 business feedback reveals substantial customer interest in mobilizing at least a sub-set of their supply chain management processes and provides a compelling list of benefits to discuss with prospective users.
