Moreover, an extensive chapter is dedicated to the markets for capital equipment, medical devices, disposables and pharmaceuticals.

The report helps businesses gain a unique insight into the socio-economic dynamics, and helps analyze how they affect healthcare systems and their evolution. It can serve as a valuable tool with actionable guidance for sales, marketing, R&D and business managers with industry related interests.

Four chapters cover the numerical and written analysis for the following topics: Economic Outlook (38 Key industry indicators), The Healthcare System (HC system structures), Reforms (restructuring, re-engineering or austerity efforts) and the Healthcare Market (Capital Equipment, Medical Devices, Disposables and Pharmaceuticals).

Economic Outlook:
- Growth rates are expected to increase slightly by the end of 2015 to about 1.6 percent, due to falling oil prices and their influence on consumer confidence and offshore investment.
- Denmark’s rate of unemployment remains high compared to Norway’s 3.9 percent unemployment rate. However it is still lower than Finland and Sweden’s rate of 7.9 percent.
- Although inflation in Denmark has remained low in 2013 and 2014, current expectations are for these rates to progressively improve in the next two to three years. Inflation is expected to reach about 2.1 percent by the end of 2015.
- Denmark’s key industries include: Clean-Tech, life Sciences, maritime, information and communications technology (ICT) and processed foods. Strong industrial activity also exists in the areas of design, research and development.
Denmark’s main exports are machinery, instruments and food products, and its main export partners are: Germany, Sweden, the U.K., the U.S., Norway and the Netherlands.

The Healthcare System:
- In 2014, Denmark’s healthcare expenditures represented about 11.11 percent of the GDP.
- This is the highest healthcare spending rate in Scandinavia (e.g. Norwegian expenditures are 9.8 percent, Swedish expenditures are at 9.6 percent and Finnish expenditures are at 9.1 percent of the GDP).
- Currently about, 85.9 percent of the total health expenditures stem from public sources like the national government, counties and municipalities (i.e. taxes).
- The latter 14.1 percent comes from private sources (employees and out of pocket expenditures). - The highest amount of private expenditures go into the areas of pharmaceuticals and dental care.
- Over 80 percent of public health expenditures are financed at a national level through a combination of block grants and activity based financing.
- Voluntary Health Insurance is available for those who wish to be part of a private scheme in addition to their main health plan.

In 2013, the Danish government announced plans to restructure the national health system.
Changes to be made include:

-Plans to consolidate services into larger and fewer clinics and hospitals
-Transforming inpatient procedures to outpatient procedures
-Tackling health inequalities
Recent reforms have been put in place to address three main challenge areas:
-Increased costs
-Organization changes
-Improving healthcare indicators

The Markets:
- Two of the biggest industries in Denmark are healthcare solutions and medical products, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Combined, these industries account for a large part of all Danish exports.
- Healthcare authorities have focused much of their efforts on meeting future demands in terms of innovative healthcare solutions, putting the healthcare system years ahead of many other countries (technologically speaking).
- Additionally, the World Bank ranks Denmark as 5th in the world in terms of being easy to do business in.
- Information technology has been a major incentive for change within the Danish healthcare system, both in terms of organization and increased efficiency. Tele-health projects are wide spread through Denmark’s e-health portal.
- In terms of the medical device industry, Denmark can be described as a small sized consumer with an estimated market worth of about € 2.6 in 2014.
