Total number of service stations in Spain increased by 2.4% in 2016, totaling 11,188 service stations.Over 28,000 new fuel cards were issued in 2016, totaling to 2,847,906 cards in the market. Of those cards 69.0% were held by fleet vehicles and 31.0% CRT vehicles.Fuel card volumes rose by 8.3% in 2016 to 8.9 Billion litres continuing the rising trend which stated in 2013. Fuel card volumes account for 33.8% of total fuel sold in Spain in 2016, and will continue to grow towards 2022.

Over 85,000 new fuel cards will be issued between 2016 and 2022, totaling to 2,950,381 cards in the market. Of those cards 70.0% will be held by fleet vehicles and 30.0% CRT vehicles.Fuel card volumes will rise by 25.2% between 2017 and 2022 totaling 11.6 Billion litres in 2022.Fuel card volumes will account for 34.2% of total fuel sold in Spain in 2022, as it increases annually between 2016 and 2022.

Fleet card volumes will continue to grow rising 32.5% between 2016 and 2022 to total 5,087m litres by the end of 2022. CRT card volumes increased by 7.7% in 2016. after rising by 2.9% in 2015. Between 2016 and 2022 CRT card volumes will increase by 28.8%, totaling 6,475m litres by the end of 2022.

Top five fuel card operators made up 92.7% of fuel card volumes in 2016 as they all offer large card acceptance networks and services such as online monitoring and toll payments. Repsol remained the dominant fuel card market leader despite losing market share accounting for 56.0% in 2016, as clients were drawn to its large domestic card network which accounts for over 31.0% of service stations in Spain. Repsol is the largest fleet and CRT card operator in Spain selling 58.2% of fleet volumes and 54.3% of CRT volumes sold in 2016.
