Summary
Go green: Revenue growth will likely decelerate as growth in the number of mobile devices falls
Abstract
Cell Phone Recycling
The Cell Phone Recycling industry, which comprises establishments that recycle and refurbish old devices, has exhibited strong growth over the past five years. This has come on the heels of rising popularity of mobile devices; old devices get recycled at increasing levels as people buy new phones. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), more than 3.4 million tons of electronic waste is generated every year. This has provided an opportunity to industry companies looking to salvage scrap metal or resell devices. Over the next five years, the industry is expected to continue growing. However, revenue growth will decelerate as growth in the number of mobile devices also weakens. Growth potential lays in higher recycling rates; if the percentage of devices recycled also increases along with the number of mobile devices for recycling, industry companies will benefit greatly.
Businesses in this industry primarily separate and sort recyclable materials from cell phones, smart phones, pagers and personal digital assistants. Companies also refurbish devices for resale. Revenue from processing other electronics is excluded from this industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
