One of the world's most valuable auto brand

Listed as one of the top companies across the entire globe, Volkswagen is a real example of a German working machine. The company isn’t as old as BMW, but it did manage to survive the disastrous Second World War. In addition, it succeeded in becoming one of the most preferred auto brands across the entire planet.

The Golf, Beetle, and Passat models are listed in the top 10 best-selling automotives of all time according to the Wall Street Journal.

History

The Company was established in Wolfsburg, Germany. The year was 1937 and the war was just about to begin. However, the German Labour Front was not able up to fulfill its main plans – creating the “people’s car”, which is the direct translation of the company name.

During the Second World War, Volkswagen’s founders wanted to revive the German industry. Back in those days, vehicles were rare in Europe. The firm decided to create the first affordable, practical, and nice-looking automotive for everyone. The first car – the KdF-Wagen – came to the world in 1936.

Since then, it has never let down its consumers. Thus, in 1961 the first automotive line by the Volkswagen Company appeared. Four models of the Type 3 were introduced. Later, in 1973, the organization showed its military-styled Type 181 in Europe and few years later the American-styled version of the vehicle hit the US market.

The legendary Beetle itself is the most beloved and contemporary sports car in the world. This happened in the late 70s. However, during the first days of the 80s, the corporation decided to do something new and shift from the Beetle-mania which had obsessed the entire world.

World car of the year

The company created the absolute car for all ages – the Golf. It has a great interior reminiscent of Giorgio Armani and a powerful engine. The Golf was so successful that the company has made an entire Golf line, which by the way, is still the most preferred car in the world. The latest Gold model is the Mk7. Although VW counts a large number of best-sellers in its automobile hall of fame, the company is missing the step into green car technology so far, unlike Tesla which should again please the market with the brand's X Model.

Sales and revenue

The Volkswagen Group includes Audi, SEAT, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Scania, and Škoda. This turns the corporation into one of the most profitable ones amongst the top auto OEMs. According to the statistics from 2011, the firm has 11.4% of the entire global market. Meanwhile, it records about 6.3 million units of annual sales. In 2015, VW overtook Toyota and became the world's largest automaker.

Up to 2012, it remained the second largest manufacturing corporation in the entire world. The firm has assembly plants across the whole globe – including China, India, Russia, Brazil, Spain, Poland, South Africa, Mexico, Slovakia, Indonesia and many others. The Volkswagen Group’s revenue for 2012 was up to 103 billion EUR. The profit for this time was 21.7 billion EUR.
