Ivory Coast has overtaken the United States to become the world's top producer of cocoa beans in 2018. The West African nation produced 1.1 million metric tons of cocoa beans last year, up from 900,000 tons in 2017, according to the International Cocoa Organization. This pushed Ivory Coast ahead of the US to first place on the global rankings, with the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan respectively taking the next three spots.
