Uganda is set to see a rise in sugarcane consumption and production over the next five years. Consumption of sugarcane is expected to reach 325,000 metric tons by 2026, an increase of 2.3% year-on-year compounded annual growth rate since 2017. In 2021, Uganda was the 10th largest consumer, with Bangladesh leading the way at 281,000 metric tons. Brazil, Thailand and Egypt followed in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively. Uganda is also set to see an increase in production by 2026, reaching 5.8 million metric tons - a 2.2% year-on-year average rate since 1966. In 2021, the Dominican Republic was the 30th largest producer with 5.1 million metric tons, followed by India, Thailand and China in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively. Overall, Uganda is set to experience a rise in sugarcane consumption and production over the next five years.
