Sugarcane consumption in Pakistan is forecast to drop by 9.1% to nearly 1 million metric tons by 2026. Since 2017, demand has grown at an average rate of 24.3% annually. In 2021, Pakistan was the fifth largest consumer of sugarcane with 1.66 million metric tons, behind Egypt, Brazil, Thailand and China. Meanwhile, the country's sugarcane production is expected to reach 73.65 million metric tons by 2026, up 0.8% from 2021 levels. Since 1966, production has declined at an average rate of 1.4% annually. In 2021, China was the main producer with 70.2 million metric tons, followed by India, Thailand and Pakistan.
