Consumption of sunflower oil in China is expected to reach nearly 290,000 metric tons by 2026. In 2021, Chinese demand totaled 276,000 metric tons, growing at an average rate of 0.8% year-on-year since 2017. China was the 9th largest consumer of sunflower oil in 2021, overtaken by Iran, which consumed 276,000 metric tons. Russia, Spain and Argentina were the second, third and fourth largest consumers respectively. Meanwhile, sunflower oil production in China is forecast to reach 124,000 metric tons by 2026, a decrease of 8.5% year-on-year since 2021. Over the past 54 years China's supply has dropped by 5.2% annually. In 2021, Serbia was the largest producer at 205,800 metric tons, followed by Russia, Argentina and Hungary.
