Zimbabwe's spice consumption is projected to plummet to approximately 300 metric tons by 2028, a drastic drop from the 1,000 metric tons recorded in 2023. This represents a yearly average decline of nearly 18%. The downward trend in spice demand has been ongoing since 2019, with a year-on-year decrease of around 13%. In 2023, Zimbabwe ranked 95th in global spice consumption, trailing behind Barbados, which also recorded 1,000 metric tons. Leading the global ranking were Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Thailand, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the production front, Zimbabwe's spice output remained stable at 3,000 metric tons in both 2017 and 2018.
