Sales of lemon essential oil are forecast to decline by nearly 10% between 2020 and 2026, from $17.2 million to $9.5 million. This decline is worse than the 11.4% decline in the market as a whole. The United Kingdom, Brazil, and Mexico were the second, third, and fourth largest markets for lemon essential oil in 2020. Consumption of lemons in Mexico is expected to fall slightly, from 1.36 million metric tons in 2021 to 1.34 million metric tons in 2026. This comes despite an overall decrease of 0.3% since 2017. Production of lemons in Mexico is set to increase from 2.79 million metric tons in 2021 to 3.06 million metric tons in 2026, an average growth rate of 1.6% year on year. This is an improvement over the 2.8% growth rate since 1966. In 2021, China was the leading producer of lemons, followed by Mexico, Argentina, and the United States.
