By 2026, Cypriot lemon consumption is expected to reach almost 4,000 metric tons, down 5% year-on-year, according to a five-year report released this week. Since 2017, demand has dropped by almost 6% on an annual basis. Meanwhile, production of lemons in Cyprus is projected to drop by 37.4% to around 330 metric tons in the same period. Since 1966, output has declined 13.1% year-on-year. In 2021, the country ranked 70th in the world for production, behind Madagascar at 4,050 metric tons, with China, Mexico, and Argentina coming in at numbers two, three, and four respectively.
